BCCI, on Tuesday, announced India's squad for Asia Cup 2025. The 15-member squad announced by captain Suryakumar Yadav and chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, had a couple of surprises. The most notable being Shubman Gill's elevation as India's vice-captain in the Asia Cup 2025.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had to sacrifice his spot in the Asia Cup squad as Shubman Gill was picked at the last minute. Another notable elimination was that of Shreyas Iyer. The Punjab Kings' captain in the IPL, led his team to the final in IPL 2025. Shreyas Iyer had also led KKR to an IPL title in the IPL 2024 edition.
Some surprise inclusions in the squad were those of Jitesh Sharma and Harshit Rana, given their inexperience on the international stage. However, with the official squad announcement, all rumours have been put to rest ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. And with the squad announcement, India's Playing XI for Asia Cup 2025 also seems to shape up.
Let's take a look at India Playing XI for Asia Cup 2025 in this article. But before that, the following is the complete squad announced by BCCI for the Asian tournament.

Openers- Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma
By naming Shubman Gill the vice-captain of the team, the selectors have made it clear that they would want Gill to feature in the India Playing XI for Asia Cup 2025.
Accordingly, the only person who gets crucified in such a situation would be Sanju Samson. Despite being India's opener after the T20 World Cup 2024 in multiple series, Samson will have to warm the bench.
Abhishek Sharma's form in international cricket and the IPL has been scintillating. And chief selector Agarkar has made it clear that his form has been hard to ignore, thereby hinting that Abhishek Sharma would be a first-choice in the India Playing XI for Asia Cup 2025.
Middle Order- Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jitesh Sharma (WK)
Tilak Varma was in red-hot form in T20Is before the IPL. After being promoted to bat at number 3 in South Africa, the Mumbai Indians' star smashed 2 centuries on the trot to prove his mettle.
Suryakumar Yadav took a demotion in the batting order despite Virat Kohli's retirement from T20Is and will continue to bat at number 4.
It is worth noting that Suryakumar Yadav bats at number 3 in the IPL, and his selection in the India squad was also based on his performance at the number 3 spot.
All Rounders- Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel
Hardik Pandya becomes the automatic choice in the first XI given his all-rounder capabilities with the bat and the ball. Hardik also fulfills the role of the 3rd seamer in India's T20 setup, and hence, his spot in the playing XI is inevitable.
Axar Patel has been picked as the lone spin bowling all-rounder, and with dry conditions in the UAE throughout the year, he will be a certainty in India Playing XI for Asia Cup 2025.
Bowlers- Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh
Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy had a remarkable outing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, and they will be India's frontline spin bowling options in T20Is too. Both the bowlers carried their good form in IPL too, and this has earned them a place in the India squad for Asia Cup 2025.Tagged:
