The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), designated as the host for the 2025 Asia Cup, has yet to confirm its participation in the tournament. Despite the uncertainty surrounding this year's event, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has finalized the official hosts for the next three tournaments.

The future of the Asia Cup 2025 remains unclear, with growing uncertainty due to recent political tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack. According to reports, the ACC is looking to host the event in September at a neutral venue, with India and Pakistan expected to participate.

The 2027 edition will be held in the ODI format, followed by a T20I format in 2029. Notably, the Asia Cup will return to the 50-over format in 2031, with Sri Lanka as the host. This rotation of formats is also expected to align with the schedule of upcoming ICC white-ball events.

"Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are going to be the official hosts for the next three editions, and the tournament will continue to switch formats. 2027 will be ODI, back to T20I in 2029 and return to ODIs for the 2031 edition in Sri Lanka," the report read.

Asia Cup 2025 Likely Scheduled from September 5 to 21

The report also added that the Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be played from September 5 to 21, with the final scheduled for the last day of the 17-day tournament.

As per the provisional schedule, India will face Pakistan in a group-stage clash on September 7. The Asian Cricket Council has nearly finalized the dates, and all participating nations, including official host India, are reportedly close to securing government approvals.

The tournament will be played in the UAE and feature six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the UAE. The competition will also follow the group stage and Super Fours format.

Asia Cup 2025 Promotions Begin as Sony Unveils Official Tournament Poster

Promotional efforts for the Asia Cup 2025 are underway, with official broadcaster Sony recently unveiling the tournament poster. The decision to host the tournament in the UAE bodes well for the continuation of the India-Pakistan rivalry in global events.

These developments also provide momentum ahead of the Women’s ODI World Cup, which is set to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan are set to play all their matches, including any potential knockouts, in Sri Lanka.

The clarity around the Asia Cup now allows broadcasters, sponsors, and event organizers to proceed with greater confidence ahead of the two major tournaments later this year.
