On Sunday, Ishan Kishan became the 7th Indian cricketer to win the man of the match award on debut. Ishan Kishan had a debut to remember as he struck a swashbuckling fifty under pressure to drive India to a series-levelling victory in the second T20I against England in Ahmedabad. Kishan crafted a counterattacking fifty to earn the man of the match award.
Ishan Kishan, along with Suryakumar Yadav, was one of the debutants in the second T20I. The swashbuckling left-handed batsman replaced another southpaw and the highly experienced Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order. Nevertheless, Ishan Kishan fulfilled his role to excellent effect, playing a counterattacking knock to give the hosts an upper hand. He mustered 56 off 32 deliveries to set up the foundation for victory.
The 22-year old shared a brisk 94-run stand with Indian captain Virat Kohli – one that came after India lost KL Rahul in the first over for a duck. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid dismissed Kishan, who could not connect the reverse sweep and was struck on the pad. Nevertheless, he set up the base for a comprehensive win, while Virat Kohli stayed till the end to finish the match and secure a win by seven wickets.
Navdeep Saini won the man of the match on his T20I debut before Ishan Kishan:
Meanwhile, Navdeep Saini was the last cricketer before Ishan Kishan to win the man of the match award on his T20I debut when the pace bowler made his first international appearance in 2019. The other players are Dinesh Karthik, Pragyan Ojha, Subramaniam Badrinath, Axar Patel, and Barinder Sran.
