Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has stepped back on Indian soil after a long gap and dominated the West Indies batters with his sublime pace and peak accuracy. With his 3 wickets in the first innings, Bumrah surpassed legends to be the fastest Indian bowler to reach 50 Test wickets at home.
The India vs West Indies first Test is underway and will be played from the 2nd of October to the 6th of this month. On the other hand, the second Test will be played from the 10th of October to the 14th of October. These two Tests mark India's second series after the India tour of England, which initiated their WTC 2025-27 campaign.
Indian skipper Shubman Gill lost his 6th consecutive toss in the history of the competition, and the visitors hence opted to bat on the seam-friendly track of the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Jasprit Bumrah becomes the fastest Indian pacer to pick 50 Test wickets at home
Having lost the toss, India was not affected much since the West Indies opted to bat first. Jasprit Bumrah shared the new ball alongside Mohammed Siraj, as India opted for just two seamers in the side. Nitish Kumar Reddy, the all-rounder who was injured in the England series, made his anticipated comeback.
Bumrah steamed in with the new ball for the Indian side as he posed a major threat to the Windies batters. He dismissed opener John Campbell as the batter nicked a ball and was caught behind the stumps.
He returned for his second spell, as Justine Greaves' stumps were broken by a breathtaking yorker from the right-arm pacer. India's greatest Test bowler hurried on to the stumps, while Johann Layne was also dismissed soon in Bumrah's next over.
Jasprit Bumrah reached the feat of 50 Test wickets on Indian soil in just 24 innings and took the fewest number of balls needed to reach the milestone.

Mohammed Siraj at his skilful best on the Ahmedabad pitch
Mohammed Siraj, the other pacer who played for India in the match against the West Indies, performed even better, as the Gujarat Titans pacer is well aware of the Narendra Modi Stadium's track.
Siraj picked three early wickets in the first session of play, which comprised the top-order batters Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Alick Athanaze, and Brandon King. He later came in to bowl in the second spell in the post-lunch session as he dismissed the Windies skipper, Roston Chase.
Mohammed Siraj continued his stunning spell after the dominant player of the match performance in the final Test of the India vs England series at The Oval.
Kuldeep Yadav picks 2 wickets on Test return
Spinner Kuldeep Yadav made his much-awaited return to the Indian Playing XI for the longest format of the game. The left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep delivered to most of his capacities.
After the initial carnage from the Indian pacers, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Shai Hope at the stroke of lunch and then went on to dismiss the final batter, Jomel Warrican. The West Indies were bowled out for 162, while India in return made a promising start with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul contributing with a 50+ partnership.
