Pakistan’s senior wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is now facing the risk of being dropped from another format after losing his place in the T20I side. According to Pakistani media, the national selectors are set to stun the fans with a big selection shake-up.
Mohammad Rizwan has been going through the tough phase. He has been one of the most dependable names in the middle order, but recent performances were not up to the mark. Because of which, the wicketkeeper is already pushed out of the T20 setup.
Mohammad Rizwan’s Test place at risk after sharp dip in form
Now, Rizwan is now under serious pressure in Test cricket as the Pakistan selectors are now reportedly thinking about fresh options for the upcoming Test series. Main concern is his form with the bat. His recent numbers have dropped sharply, with only 262 runs at an average of over 21 in his last 12 Test innings.

His last 12 Test innings scores read: 19, 30, 10, 46, 29, 37, 24, 40, 19, 0, 1, and 6. During this period, the former Pakistan captain’s batting has looked uncertain, especially against pace and disciplined bowling attacks. He has also struggled to convert starts into big scores, even on good batting pitches at home, where he was expected to dominate.
He last played a Test for Pakistan in Rawalpindi against South Africa and managed only 19 and 18; that also added more pressure. Technical issues in Rizwan’s batting also raised concerns as the opposition teams have started to target his weaknesses more effectively with the red ball.
Mohammad Rizwan's struggles continue in PSL 2026
His struggles continue in the ongoing PSL 2026. Rizwan, who is leading the new franchise Rawalpindiz, has been badly struggling both as a captain and a batter. In the first five matches of the season, Rizwan has not been able to score a single half-century.
Overall, he has managed only 83 runs in 5 matches at an average of 16.6 and a strike rate of 110. This poor run has also affected his team’s performance. Rawalpindiz are still searching for their first win of the PSL 2026 season and are currently placed at the bottom of the table after losing all five matches.
Mohammad Rizwan set to be dropped Pakistan's Test side
Because of this dip, Mohammad Rizwan is now set to lose his Test spot also in the Pakistan cricket team, as claimed by the well-known journalist A-Rangzab Younis. He revealed that the young keeper-batter Rohail Nazir is now being considered as a possible option for the upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh.

Pakistan is all set to travel to Bangladesh for the two-match Test series in May 2026. The series will be played between May 8 and May 20 and is part of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. So, these tests hold importance for both teams.
Still, Rizwan still remains one of Pakistan’s most experienced Test players with over 2,000 runs in the format. He has 2,399 runs at an average of 39.98 in 69 Test innings to his name. He has also taken 108 catches and effected 10 stumpings in the format so far.
