Mohammed Siraj produced one of the most dramatic dismissals of the first Test between India and South Africa as their fiery fast bowler sent Simon Harmer’s off stump flying in a stunning display of sheer precision, brutality, and accuracy at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
On the third ball of the 53rd over, Mohammed Siraj delivered a moment of pure destruction when he came on for his second over of South Africa’s second innings at the Eden Gardens. Siraj sent in a length ball that angled towards the stumps, and Harmer completely misread the delivery.

Harmer made the big mistake of leaving it alone as the ball smashed through the off stump with such force that the stump didn’t just come out of the ground but split into two, leaving the wicket in a complete mess at the Eden Gardens on Day 3 morning.

The hit was so powerful that the fourth umpire had to run in with a fresh stump to replace the broken one, with the Indian pacer reminding everybody that nobody can take him lightly. The Proteas star walked back after scoring 7 off 20 balls after Siraj had been denied earlier through a review.

Mohammed Siraj destroys Keshav Maharaj with unplayable yorker
In the same over, Mohammed Siraj finished the job in style by dismissing Keshav Maharaj. He sent a perfect yorker at Maharaj, landing it right at his toes before he could react. The ball hit Maharaj on the boot in front of the off stump, and the umpire raised his finger instantly.
The South African spinner went for a review, but the replays showed the ball was crashing into the middle stump. Maharaj walked back without scoring, dismissed for a three-ball duck as Siraj wrapped up the third innings in the ongoing first Test at Eden Gardens.

The Proteas side bowled out for 153 runs in their second innings, with the captain Temba Bavuma remaining unbeaten on 55 off 136 balls—the most deliveries faced by a player on the tough Eden Gardens surface so far in the ongoing first Test. Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav each scalped two wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja was the standout bowler with four wickets.

Now, India needs 124 runs to win the Kolkata Test, but the road to victory will be really tough, and they have already had a tough start. Having already lost the captain, Shubman Gill, due to injury, the Indian side is chasing the tricky target with 10 players, and they are already two down for just 1.
Historic highs and lows at Eden Gardens
Notably, the highest target ever successfully chased at Eden Gardens came back in 2004, when India chased down 117 against South Africa. It was a low-scoring thriller, but India held their nerve and crossed the finish line to seal a memorable eight-wicket win over the Proteas side.
On the other hand, the lowest target ever successfully defended at this iconic venue in Kolkata was way back in 1972/73. At that time, India had defended just 192 runs against England, pulling off a dramatic 23-run victory on a pitch that supported the bowlers throughout the match.
