Ricky Ponting believes that everyone will demonstrate poor form at some point in their lives. Virat Kohli has probably had a 10- or 12-year run with few down times.

Kohli finished IPL 2022 with 341 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 115.98 and an average of 22.73. Virat’s mediocre Indian Premier League season came to an end when he was dismissed for 7 runs in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad.

It’s a problem that has plagued Indian cricket for the past two years. Former captain Kohli’s bat struggles have been well documented, with the most recent of his 70 international centuries coming in November 2019.

Kohli has played 63 internationals since then, scoring 2,478 runs at an average of just over 37.

‘Virat Kohli won’t stay down for too long’: Ponting

Ponting thinks that a break would be beneficial to him.

“It (bad form) will occur to all of us at the point.” Virat has presumably had a 10 or 12-year run where he hasn’t had many down times,” Ponting said.

“However, there was a lot of talk and speculation around the IPL about how tired and burned out he might be.” That is for him to work out, assess, and work on improving, whether it is a technical or mental issue.

“I’m confident that, being the consummate professional that he is, he’ll figure it out and figure it out quickly.”

“One thing I’ve noticed from experience is that as a player, you frequently bluff yourself into thinking you’re not physically and mentally tired.”

You every time find a way to motivate yourself for practice and competition. It’s not until you stop and rest for a few days that you realize how tired and feeling tired you are.

“So that’s where Virat Kohli is right now, but I’m pretty sure he won’t stay down for long.”

The Indian guns are primed and ready for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia later this year. On October 23, 2022, India will begin their campaign at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
