India National Cricket Team are currently locking horns with Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the second Test of the two-match series. The match between the two teams kickstarted on Friday (27th September) at Green Park in Kanpur.

However, there has been very little passage of play possible due to the rain. The weather washed out almost two sessions on Day 1, and there wasn't any play possible because of the rain on Day 2 as well in Kanpur.

The forecast for the next three days also doesn't look good, and there are chances that the game might get washed out. So far, there have been only 35 overs of play possible in the game, and even if we get to play in the last few days, there are chances that the game might end in a draw.

Qualification scenario for India for WTC Final

A win here in the game would've made India's position strong for the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25. If they had sealed the game, then the Rohit Sharma-led side would've needed only 3 wins out of the 8 remaining Tests to make it into the summit clash of the tournament.

But if the game gets abandoned, the road to the final of the ICC World Test Championship becomes tough for Rohit Sharma's army. After the ongoing game, they have 8 more games, 3 against New Zealand at home and 5 against the Pat Cummins-led side in Australia, which will be a massive challenge.

To qualify for the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2025, India will need to win 5 out of their remaining 8 games in the World Test Championship. Since the Tests against New Zealand are at home, they would be fancying their chances to take a clean sweep in the series as they haven't lost many games at home.

If they manage to win the three Tests against New Zealand then even 2 wins in Australia would seal them the place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Therefore, they would be hoping to win all three games against the Kiwis if the second game against Bangladesh gets washed out.

India, who are on the top of the table in the current cycle, has made it into the finals of the last two editions of the ICC World Test Championship. However, they are yet to win the title. They lost to New Zealand in the summit clash in 2021 before getting thrashed by Australia in 2023, as they looked clueless in both finals.

This time around, they would be hoping to turn things around if they managed to reach the final. Rohit Sharma, who won the T20 World Cup 2024 as a captain, would be keen to add another feather to his kitty by winning the final and taking Indian cricket to new heights.

The final of the ICC World Test Championship will take place at the Lord's Cricket Ground. The ICC recently announced the dates as the game will be played from 11th to 15th June with 16th being the reserve day.
