Pakistan National Cricket Team are having a torrid time in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Things got even worse for them after they suffered a poor loss in the two-match Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
Pakistan were at the receiving end of the 0-2 whitewash against Bangladesh. This was the first time in the history of the longest format of the game that the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side won the Test series against Pakistan.
Pakistan, in the first game, suffered a 10-wicket loss, and it came as a surprise because they faced this after declaring the innings, having scored 448 runs. But after that, nothing went their way as they failed to deliver goods with the ball, with Bangladesh taking the lead of over 100 runs.
The Shan Masood-led side failed with the bat as they set the target of just 30 runs to Bangladesh to win, which they achieved with 10 wickets in hand. It was then expected that they would stage a comeback in the second game, but it wasn't the case, as they crashed in the second game as well.
Asked to bat, the hosts got all-out for 274 runs but what was impressive was they had Bangladesh down to 26/6. It seemed that they would take a big lead, but that wasn't the case as Litton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) brought the Team back into the game, taking the team to 262 runs in the first innings.
Bangladesh then bundled out the hosts for 172 runs in the second innings, setting 185 runs to chase. The visitors then came up with a sensational effort as they went on to chase the target with 6 wickets in hand and win the series by the margin of 2-0.
Pakistan's chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship are very bleak
After the Test series loss against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, Pakistan slipped down to 8th position in the World Test Championship points table. Their chances to qualify for the final, which will be played at Lord’s, are very bleak.
In the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, the Shan Masood-led side have managed to win just 2 games out of 7 matches so far. The percentage of points (PCT) reads 19.05, which is better than only the West Indies, which are placed at the bottom of the table.
To qualify for the final of the World Test Championship, Pakistan need to win the next three games against the England National Cricket Team at home. After that, they need to clean sweep South Africa in their home before taking on West Indies at home.
Therefore to stand a chance, the Men In Green need to win their remaining seven matches. If they manage to do so, their percentage of points will go to 58.2. However, that won't even guarantee a place in the final, as India and Australia are at the top with higher PCT. The Shan Masood-led side will be dependent on the other results as well.
