The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian team squads for the upcoming three-match ODI and three-match T20I series at home against the West Indies which begins from February 6 onwards. However, neither of the squad featured the likes of Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, or Jasprit Bumrah, and here is the reason why they were excluded.

India will face the West Indies in three ODIs to start the tour which will be played on February 6, 9, and 11 in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad. The series will then move to the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where the three T20Is will take place on February 16, 18, and 20. This schedule was revised by the BCCI keeping the ongoing third wave of the COVID pandemic in the country.

While there were some surprises in the T20Is and ODIs squad with Ravi Bishnoi getting his maiden call-up, Deepak Hooda getting called into the ODI team, and Kuldeep Yadav making his India return, the BCCI informed that ace fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were being rested from the West Indies series altogether.

Bumrah played all the six games in the West Indies, while Mohammad Shami played all three Test matches.

KL Rahul To Miss The First ODI, While Ravindra Jadeja To Miss The Entire West Indies Series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named KL Rahul the vice-captain for both the ODIs and T20Is against the West Indies at home, but the Karnataka batter will only be available for the ODI series from the second match onwards.

Also not included was Ravindra Jadeja, who as per BCCI information, is yet to recover from his knee injury and is undergoing his final stage of recovery. The BCCI will not want to risk Jadeja coming back from his injury not fully fit as he will be needed for the home series against Sri Lanka, as Ravichandran Ashwin is set to miss one and a half months of cricket due to an injury.

Also, the BCCI revealed that Axar Patel will only play the T20Is, giving him more time to get back into rhythm after missing the South Africa tour due to an injury.
