India are one of the favorites to win the tournament this year. They have done well in white-ball cricket in recent times reaching the semi-final of the T2-0 World Cup final. Asia Cup is a tournament where India have been consistent throughout. They have won seven titles with Sri Lanka being next-best with six titles.

Rinku Singh Kicked Out, No Yashasvi Jaiswal Or KL Rahul: Here’s India’s Squad for Asia Cup 2023
Openers: Rohit Sharma & Shubman Gill
Skipper Rohit Sharma will open the batting and his batting partner is expected to be Shubman Gill. While Rohit has had a reputation of being one of the best white-ball openers in the past decade, his form of late has been a bit of a concern. He needs to have a good tournament to come back into form. The batting-friendly pitches in Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be just suitable for him.
Gill has had a fabulous run in white-ball cricket in 2023. He scored ODI and T20I centuries to go with a Test century last year. The youngster scored 890 runs in the IPL to win the Orange Cap earlier this year. He has been the consistent batter for India at the top of the order. The duo will need to give India a good start in the tournament.

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan
Kohli, SKY, and Kishan can bat at three four, and five respectively. While three and four are the usual numbers for Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, Kishan can replace Rishabh Pant at number five. This will allow the likes of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja to play the finisher’s role with the bat. All three players can play in different gears and according to the situation.

Wicketkeeper: Sanju Samson
The management is not sure whether Rishabh Pant will be fit by the time the Asia Cup 2023 starts. In such a scenario, Sanju Samson is the best bet for the wicketkeeper’s role. Isha Kishan will be the other wicketkeeping choice in the XI. Samson had a good 2022 scoring 284 runs in 10 games at an average of 71 with two fifties.
All-Rounders: Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja
Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the seasoned all-rounders in this Indian cricket team. Hardik has also led India in ODI and T20I games recently as he is being groomed to replace Rohit Sharma in the future. His leadership with Gujarat Titans in the IPL has helped him evolve his captaincy and all-round skills. Jadeja has also grown into a useful all-rounder in the last four to five years. He has contributed with both bat and ball consistently.
Pacers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh
There are reports that Jasprit Bumrah will be making a comeback in the T20I series against Ireland that starts on August 18. The three T20Is will be played till August 23. This also means he will be available for selection in the Asia Cup.
If he is available, he should lead the Indian pace attack. He will have Mohammed Shami and Mohd Siraj for company. Both the bowlers have been regularly playing ODI and Test cricket for India. Arshdeep Singh should be looked at as a left-hand seaming option.
Spinners: Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin / Ravi Bishnoi
Chahal and Kuldeep should lead the spin attack in the Asia Cup 2023. Kuldeep has especially returned with a bang since 2022 picking up 27 wickets in 16 ODIs 2022. Chahal too has been a seasoned operator in white-ball cricket taking 21 wickets in 14 ODIs last year and just two in three matches this year so far.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s ODI selection has always been a dilemma for the selectors. With the ODI World Cup scheduled in India later this year, they might be just tempted to give him a go in the tournament. We have seen him being selected for the T20 World Cup last year and Ashwin being selected over Chahal. Ravi Bishnoi is the other leg-spin option that the selectors might consider. This makes up India’s probable 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023.
