Former BCCI selector Kris Srikkanth predicted that Indian veteran star Rohit Sharma will make a stylish start to the IPL 2026 campaign by thrashing the Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers in the opening game for the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

After several back-to-back ordinary seasons with the bat, Rohit Sharma showed glimpses of sheer form in the last two editions of the IPL. The former World Cup-winning captain from India has been anticipated to end the upcoming season of the IPL with a huge pile of big scores.

"KKR is his badam halwa team," Srikkanth's massive prediction on Rohit Sharma

Former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth once again showed immense faith in his predictions as he backed former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to put on a massive show at the start of the IPL 2026 season against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Mumbai Indians will kickstart their IPL 2026 campaign with a highly anticipated starting game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. He pointed out Rohit Sharma's thriving legacy in the IPL, especially against the Knight Riders.

"KKR used to be a halwa for Rohit Sharma a few years back. He is going to smash their bowling, like eating halwa tomorrow. KKR is his badam halwa team. Once KKR comes itself, Rohit is in a comfort zone," said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.

Rohit has amassed 1000+ runs against the Knight Riders, averaging nearly 40 and also scored his maiden century in the IPL against this opposition. However, he has struggled against them in recent encounters and has just managed one half-century with one 25+ score in the last 8 innings since 2020.

However, the all-rounder following that had a horrific run in the ICC T20 World Cup and averaged just 8 after 3 innings. He also picked just one solitary wicket against Zimbabwe after having bowled just 3.1 overs in the competition.

Srikkanth then went on to back Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians to be the possible favourites in their upcoming encounter against the Kolkata Knight Riders. He then went on to blame KKR's weakened bowling lineup, which might have changed their fate.

"MI should win for sure. I would say they hold a 75-25 edge. MI has every base covered and are a 9.5/10 team. KKR actually did a good job in the auction. Mustafizur was a good pick, and if he and Pathirana had been there, they would have had a good balance. Harshit Rana being unfit was a big hit for them," he said.

However, he also noted that the KKR management did a good job picking out important players needed to strengthen their side, but their plans were ruined by KKR's ill fate.

"If everyone were available, KKR had a good bowling side. They were actually one of the teams that did a very good job in the auction. But it's been a complete turn of events after that," he added.
