Sri Lanka and Afghanistan go head to head in the first of the three-match ODI series on November 25 in Pallakele. All three matches will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. The second and third ODIS will be played on November 27 and 30 respectively.

The Afghanistan National Team will arrive in Sri Lanka later this month to play an ODI series, which will be a part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League 2023. The Afghan side is slated to reach Sri Lanka on November 22 as per reports.

Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup earlier this year by defeating Pakistan in the final. They lost against Afghanistan to begin their campaign and ended up winning the title. However, they could not replicate their Asia Cup form in the World Cup.

They qualified for their Super 12 round but could not qualify for the semifinals. A loss to England saw them get eliminated from the tournament. Dasun Shanaka will lead the side in the series with Chamika Karunaratne dropped from the side. Danushka Gunathilaka will also miss the series after SLC banned him over a sexual assault case.

Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. They also defeated Bangladesh in the group stage. However, losses to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India saw them get eliminated from the tournament. They did not have a T20 World Cup campaign to remember as well as they lost their league games to bow out from the tournament.

Hasmatullah Shahidi will lead the side in the ODI series as Mohammad Nabi stepped down as captain of the side post the T20 World Cup.

The two sides have met four times in ODIs will Sri Lanka leading the head-to-head count 3-1. Afghanistan and Sri Lanka last met in the format in the 2019 World Cup, where the Lankan Lions recorded a 34-run triumph.
