Suryakumar Yadav, the World Cup-winning Indian skipper, is in no mood to step down from captaincy after another disappointing season in the ongoing IPL season.
Speculations have been loud against Suryakumar Yadav's possible snub from captaincy after having won the World Cup title with the Indian team. He led India's successful campaign in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but his batting form has emerged as a major flaw.
Suryakumar Yadav's dismal form with the bat has led the Mumbai Indians' stand-in skipper to continue to struggle with the bat. In this season, he has featured in 12 matches and has managed to score just 210 runs at an awful average of 17.5.
Suryakumar Yadav is fit and ready to resume Indian captaincy.
Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian T20I captain, has been reported to be replaced by Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings skipper, who has led by example. But such reports seem misinformative, as Iyer has not been part of India's T20I setup for a long time.
It was also reported that Suryakumar Yadav was struggling with a wrist injury; however, a source close to the cricketer's developments revealed that his wrist is absolutely fine, and hence he will continue to star in the upcoming games, as per a report from TOI's Gaurav Gupta.
SKY was also seen training at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of their final league clash against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday and is in no mood to take a break from any form of cricket.
"Surya is keen to go to both Ireland and England. Since he plays only one format for India, there is no issue of burnout. He is fit and fine. As for his wrist, if there was an injury, how could he hit the kind of shots he has played," the source said.
Suryakumar is all set to feature in the Mumbai T20 League
Surya, who had missed the match against the Punjab Kings, returned to the mix in the last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. He is also available for the final clash against the Rajasthan Royals.
Suryakumar Yadav has shown keenness to be part of India's squad for the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland and is also looking forward to continuing as India's skipper for the upcoming much-anticipated tour against England. It will include a five-match T20I series scheduled to be played between the 1st and 11th of July.
Right after the end of the IPL, the Mumbai T20 League begins from the 1st of June, and Suryakumar is all set to feature in the tournament for the Triumph Knights. The matches will be played at Mumbai's home ground at Wankhede Stadium.
Ravindra Jadeja is all set to return ahead of RR's final clash against MI
The Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, will arrive at Wankhede with some sheer confidence after having won their first match of the season at home, in their last clash against the Lucknow Super Giants. This game turns out to be a must-win fixture for the Royals, who are eyeing the fourth spot in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
Ravindra Jadeja, the experienced spinner who was traded into the Rajasthan Royals side ahead of the start of the tournament, missed the last few games for the men from the Pink City of India. He is likely to return ahead of the playoffs and feature in the final game of the league stage.
Skipper Riyan Parag is also likely to return after having missed the last game, which marked Yashasvi Jaiswal's first-ever win as a captain in the IPL. The two were spotted training in the nets on Friday, hence indicating a possible return.
