Former Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal took a sly dig at Mohammad Rizwan while explaining Zakir Hasan's dismissal in the ongoing India vs Bangladesh Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Bangladesh opener failed to impress with the bat on Friday (September 20). After India were all out for 376 runs, the onus was on openers Shadman Islam and Zakir to give their team a good start. However, they failed to do so.
Islam departed in the very first over after being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah for two. Zakir Hasan was the next to depart. On the first ball of the ninth over, the southpaw was clean-bowled by Akash Deep. It was an angled delivery from the right-arm pacer and the Bangladesh batter went for a drive.
However, he could not make any contact with the ball. The attempted drive also left a gap between the bat and pad, and the ball went on to pass through that gap before uprooting the middle stump.
Zakir Hasan was having some issues with the sight screen before his dismissal. And as soon as he got out, veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle asked his fellow commentators whether the issue played a role in the dismissal.
However, Tamim Iqbal was having none of it as he took a dig at Zakir Hasan and did not spare Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan either. Rizwan is known for his antics on the ground and Tamil Iqbal said that Zakir might have learned it from the Pakistan star.
"Zakir is just coming back from Pakistan, maybe he's getting this from Mohammad Rizwan who has issues everywhere," said Tamim Iqbal.
Talking about the game, Team India are firmly in the driver's seat in the Test. Asked to bat first, India were reduced to 34 for 3 and then 144 for 6. However, brilliant knocks from Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bailed India out of trouble and propelled them to a competitive total of 376 runs.
Ashwin scored 113 runs while Jadeja scored 86 runs. For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud took 5 wickets while Taskin Ahmed claimed 3. With the bat, Bangladesh were bowled out for only 149 runs. Jasprit Bumrah claimed 4 wickets while Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 2 wickets each. In the second innings, India ended the day on 81 for 3 to take their overall lead to 308 runs.
