The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that United States pacer Kyle Phillip has been suspended from bowling in international cricket. Kyle Phillip’s bowling action is deemed illegal, and the suspension will remain in effect until he undergoes a reassessment of his bowling action.

Phillip is currently representing the USA squad in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. The 26-year-old impressed with his bowling in the opening match against the West Indies. He registered figures of 3/56, dismissing Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, and Alzarri Joseph.

However, match officials reported Phillip’s action following their 39-run loss against the West Indies. The right-arm pacer was not included in the playing XI in the USA’s second match against Nepal on June 20. The ICC’s Event Panel confirmed that the pacer employed an illegal bowling action.

As per a report on the ICC’s official website, Kyle Phillip has been suspended from bowling in international cricket under Article 6.7 of the regulations. The suspension will remain in place until a reassessment of his bowling action is conducted, which concludes that his bowling action is legal.

The USA lost their first three games in the World Cup Qualifiers and are currently in last place in Group A. They suffered a 5-wicket loss against the Netherlands in their recent game. The USA team is unlikely to qualify for the 2023 World Cup, which is set to be played in India in October and November.

Kyle Phillip made his ODI debut for the United States against Nepal at Al Amerat in September 2021. The Trinidad-born cricketer picked up six wickets in five ODIs at an average of 40.83, with his best bowling figures being 3/43. He picked up 12 wickets at an average of 35.08 in his List A career.

The recent suspension of Phillip from bowling in international cricket raises concerns about his participation in the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket (MLC), which is scheduled to commence on July 13. The USA pacer was picked by the MI New York franchise as a domestic player in the draft.
