Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag made humorous remarks about Indian cricketers not participating in T20 leagues around the world. Virender Sehwag jokingly mentioned that Indian players are wealthy and don't need to go to "poor countries" for the franchise tournaments.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doesn't allow Indian cricketers to participate in foreign T20 leagues unless they retire. This policy is aimed at maintaining the IPL's prominence. There are no restrictions on retired players participating in franchise cricket around the world.

We Are Rich People - Virender Sehwag

During a conversation on the Club Prairie Podcast with former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist, Virender Sehwag humorously stated that Indian players don't need to as they are wealthy and don't go to "poor countries" for other leagues.

"Do you see a time when Indian players will be able to play in other T20 leagues?" Gilchrist asked.

"No, we don't need to. We are rich people, we don't go to poor countries for other leagues," Sehwag replied.

Virender Sehwag recounted declining an offer from the Big Bash League due to the low payment. The former Indian opener stated that he received the $100,000 offer but refused it.

"I still remember when I was dropped from the Indian team and I was playing IPL. Then I got an offer from BBL that I should participate in the Big Bash, I said okey how much money, they said $100,000. I said I can spend that money in my holidays, even last night bill was more than that," Sehwad further stated.

Sehwag's appearance on the podcast joins the esteemed company of Indian cricketing stars like Ravi Shastri, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma. The 45-year-old's playful banter with the hosts and witty storytelling made for an entertaining and memorable episode.

Sehwag played 104 Tests, 251 ODIs, and 19 T20Is, accumulating 8586, 8273, and 394 runs, respectively. Notably, he scored two triple-hundreds in Tests and a double-century in ODIs. Additionally, Sehwag contributed as an off-spinner, claiming 40 Test wickets and 90 ODI scalps.

I Was Compared With Sachin Tendulkar - Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag predicted that he would likely be included in the squad for the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. He advised Jaiswal to focus on one's own game rather than being weighed down by comparisons.

“See, even I was compared with Sachin Tendulkar during my early days. But the sooner you keep it out of your mind, the better. I don't think Yashasvi Jaiswal thinks too much about being compared with me. Comparison can hurt you. I can't perform like Tendulkar. Let Sehwag be Sehwag. You know the most about your game, focus on working on that,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Jaiswal struggled to score during the first half of IPL 2024. However, the left-handed batter scored an unbeaten century against the Mumbai Indians to guide the Royals to a commanding nine-wicket win. He has scored 225 runs in eight innings, boasting an average of 32.14 and an impressive strike rate of 157.34.
