BAN vs AFG: BCB Issues Apology After Security Personnel Assaults Journalist

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued an apology after the security personnel assaulted a journalist in Dhaka during the third day’s play between Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the one-off Test.
BCB director Ismail Haider Mallick made s statement in the pres box inside an hour when the accident happened saying that the people involved in the unfortunate incident will be taken off from duty.

BCB To Enquire About Senior Journalist Assault Case
Mallick further said that the board is in the process of identifying the culprits involved in assaulting senior journalist Tasfiq Shahriar, who works for the Cricfrenzy website. BCB further said that all arrangements will be made to ensure that the people involved in this case are duly punished.
The incident happened when Mr. Tasfiq Shahriar was waiting for one of his colleagues to bring his accreditation card so that he could enter the press box during the third day’s play. One of the security guards told him to stand across the street. The journalists generally wait near Gate Number 1 of the Shere Bangla National Stadium, and Shahriar moved away from that spot when asked to.

Suddenly one of the security guards launched an attack on him catching him off guard. Shahriar who was talking to another journalist at that time said that at least three to five persons attacked him and left him battered and bruised on his nose and throat.

This is not the first time that BCB security guards have attacked journalists. Similar incidents have happened in 2005, 2006 and 2016. Several reports of such attacks have not been peened down as well.
Talking about Bangladesh vs Afghanistan one-off Test match, the visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first in Dhaka. Bangladesh scored 382 in their first innings. They declared their first innings on 425/4 with Nazmul Hossain Shanto (121) and Mominul Haque (124) scoring centuries.
Afghanistan in response were bowled out for just 146 in their first innings with Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain taking four wickets. The Afghans are chasing a mammoth target of 663 in their second innings and are on 45/2 after the end of the third day’s play needing another 617 runs to win the Test match.
