Dhawal Kulkarni, the Mumbai North East Triumph Knights fast bowler, has been ruled out of the Mumbai T20 league due to an ankle injury.

Mumbai North East bought Kulkarni for an amount of Rs 1,50,000.

He was one of the icon players in the league but found no buyer in the auction during the first round along with Shardul Thakur.

He was purchased by the franchise later, but Shardul did not find a buyer.

Kulkarni’s injury is a big blow for the side, as his presence could have been something which would have helped the team.

“We received a verbal confirmation from MCA that Dhawal has been ruled out due to an ankle injury. We have asked for a replacement and are waiting for their directions,” Atul Ranade, Mumbai North East said.

The franchise will have to rope in a first-class player to fulfil the quota of having five first-class players in the side.

Dhawal’s injury will have no impact on his chances of playing IPL, as he will be fit in a week’s time.

He is a part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL, as the franchise bought him back for an amount of Rs 75 Lakh by use of RTM card.

Mumbai North East play their first game of the season tomorrow (March 11) against Sobo Supersonics in the second game of the opening day.

The inaugural edition of the league starts tomorrow (March 11) with Mumbai North Panthers takings on ARCS Andheri.

The T20 league is all set to be a star-studded affair with likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Abhishek Nayar being part of the league.

Gavaskar is the commissioner of the league while Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of the tournament.

Rahane, Rohit, Iyer and Nayar are few of the international players who are apart of different teams in the league.

Rohit, though, will not be able to play the full tournament, as he is in Sri Lanka for the Nidahas Trophy.

He will only be available to play the last game, i.e. final – given that ARCS Andheri qualifies for the final.

The domestic stars like Suryakumar Yadav, Siddesh Lad, Pravin Tambe will play the full tournament.
