India vs Australia 2019: Australia’s innings

Australia’s openers gave a perfect start to their team in the run-chase. Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja added 83 runs for the opening partnership as they batted at the top of their game. Finch must have added a shot in the arm as the right-hander wasn’t in the best of forms. The Australian skipper scored 53-ball 37 laced with five fours and one six. However, his knock was put paid by Kuldeep Yadav when Finch went for the sweep and was leg-before-wicket.

One brings two is a famous cricket saying and Kedar Jadhav sent back Usman Khawaja in the next over when the southpaw found Virat Kohli at covers. Subsequently, Glenn Maxwell was knocked over by Kuldeep Yadav after the ball kept low.

Peter Handscomb looked good for his 48 but his knock was ended by Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliance in the field. Jadeja was able to hit the bullseye from the point. However, a good partnership between Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey added a good partnership. Carey went for the sweep and got an inside edge on to the stumps.

Jasprit Bumrah turned the match on its head in the 46th over when he took two wickets. However, Stoinis kept Australia in the contest.

India got off to bad start after Australian skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rohit Sharma went for the cut short against Pat Cummins on the final ball of the first over. However, the flamboyant batsman got a thick outside edge which carried to third man, Adam Zampa.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan continued his dismal show going. The southpaw opener played a cross batted shot against Glenn Maxwell and he was plumbed in front. However, the standing umpire gave the decision in favour of the hosts. The visitors went for the review and the third umpire had to reverse the decision after Hawkeye returned three reds.

Subsequently, Ambati Rayudu played a poor shot when he attempted to guide a leg-stump ball towards the off-side. The right-hander could not make the connection with the bat and he was also plumped in front by Nathan Lyon.

India’s best partnership of the innings when Vijay Shankar and Virat Kohli batted with gumption. India’s rookie all-rounder who has impressed with the bat continued his good show going. The right-hander was timing the ball with perfection and raced to 46 runs off 41 balls with the help of five fours and one six. However, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder didn’t have the rub of the green on his side when Virat Kohli played a powerful shot down the ground. Zampa got the fingertips on the ball and Vijay had backed too away from the popping crease.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli completed his half-centuries of half-centuries as he continued to produce runs. However, Kohli kept losing his partners at regular intervals. Kedar Jadhav, India’s previous match hero found Aaron Finch at covers when he made the mistake of hitting the ball in the air. Furthermore, MS Dhoni could not continue his good form going as he was dismissed for a golden duck after a gap of nine years.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli continued to take the Indian innings forward. Kohli completed his 40th ODI hundred when he smashed a boundary towards the off-side as continued to churn out the runs. The Indian skipper and Ravindra Jadeja added 67 runs for the seventh wicket with the latter completing his 2000 ODI runs. Jadeja also became the third Indian player to score 2000 ODI runs and scalp more than 150 wickets.

However, India could not play their full quota of 50 overs as they were skittled out for 250 runs in 48.2 overs.
