India’s chinaman mystery spinner Kuldeep Yadav provided the first breakthrough to his team in the ongoing third One Day International against Australia at Ranchi. Yadav was able to plumb Australia’s skipper Aaron Finch in front of the wickets. Finch went on to the backfoot and missed to make any connection with the ball.
Consequently, he was hit in line with the stumps and the ball had also kept a shed low. The on-field umpire gave the decision in favour of the hosts. However, Finch decided to send the matter to the third umpire as he took the review.
India got its first wicket in the 32nd over.
But the ball had hit in line and it was going to hit the stumps. Thus, Australia lost their captain Finch for 93 runs as well as their review. Finch was under the scanner for his form but this good knock must have added a shot in the arm for him. Finch scored 10 fours and three sixes in his knock of 93 runs. The right-hander had scored 37 runs in the previous match and had shown glimpses of returning back to form.
Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja brought his maiden ODI hundred as the southpaw batted with aplomb. The left-hander scored 104 off 113 balls with the help of 11 fours and one six.
Khawaja and Finch added 193 runs for the opening partnership to give a fine platform to their side after Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first.
In fact, Khawaja was dropped for 18 runs by Shikhar Dhawan at backward point. The left-hander was able to make the most of his second life and batted at the top of his game. Khawaja had a soft dismissal when he could not get his timing right against Mohammed Shami and gave a simple catch to Jasprit Bumrah.
