It is safe to say that Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has evolved by leaps and bounds in the past five years or so. Sharma, who burst on the scene way back in the 2007-08 season made heads turn courtesy his ferocious spell against the then Australian captain Ricky Ponting at the WACA.

Ishant was immediately hailed as the next superstar of Indian cricket and a rightful successor to the legendary Zaheer Khan. But after a good first year, Sharma endured a period where splashes of occasional brilliance were followed by an extended spell of mediocrity.

But in the past, Ishant has truly emerged as the leader of the Indian pace attack. Since the start of January 2015, the Delhi fast bowler has claimed 110 wickets at an average of 24.25 which also includes five five-wicket-hauls.

The rise of Coronavirus has forced the entire world into the lockdown. During this time, cricketers have been engaging with their fans via Question-Answer session on social media.

Ishant’s IPL franchise Delhi Capitals recently shared a video where the Indian fast bowler can be seen answering to a plethora of questions posted by fans. One fan asked Sharma to pick between his 7-74 at Lord’s 2014 and the five-wicket-haul that he claimed against Bangladesh in India’s first-ever pink ball Test at the Eden Gardens last year.

Ishant said that both spells are equally close to his heart as the five-wicket-haul at Lord’s led India to a famous win while the five-for against Bangladesh was his first in India after 12 years.

“I think both of them are memorable for me. Because taking seven wickets at Lord’s is something I can’t forget. And, taking those five wickets with the pink ball, even I can’t forget because after 12 years I took a five-for in India” Ishant Sharma answered.

Ishant’s spell at Lord’s was a perfect representation of how one should implement a carefully laid out plan. That spell propelled India to a famous 95-run-win over England which also happened to be their first at the venue after a period of 28 years.
