Kane Williamson fought back for SRH after losing early wickets but failed to guide the side to a win the Qualifier 2 against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Delhi Capitals beat SRH by 17 runs to enter their maiden IPL final. But it was difficult end to the campaign from SRH, who roared back to enter the playoffs.
Chasing a total of 190 runs, SRH lost the dangerous David Warner early. Williamson hit 67 runs off 45 deliveries with Manish Pandey and Abdul Samad chipping in with crucial cameos but it was not enough to guide the side to a victory.
It’s a real shame not to make the finals: Kane Williamson
Williamson said that Delhi Capitals is a very good team and they have looked to find the rhythm to play. He also mentioned that the capital franchise were able to put together a strong performance against them. The New Zealand skipper however felt that it was a shame for their side not to qualify for the IPL 2020 final but the team can be proud of their performances.
“Delhi is a very good side. They have been trying to find the rhythm to their play like we were and we managed to for a little period of time. Delhi was able to put it together against us and they played very well,” Williamson said during the post-match press conference.
“Going in the second innings, risks needed to be taken. We did not get off to a good start but we managed to build a few partnerships through the middle period. We still had a bit of opportunity.
“It’s a real shame not to make the finals but I think, particularly in the last three weeks, the guys can be proud of how they played.”
SRH captain David Warner had also appreciated the positive performances from some of his young players.
