Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has named his contenders who can win the ongoing IPL 2020. The tournament, which is being played in UAE, has entered its business phase with all the teams having already played at least seven games by now.

At present, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders are in the top half of the points table while Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab are in the bottom half.

And while only time will tell which team goes on to win the tournament, Kevin Pietersen believes Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians are the favourites for the title this year. The batting legend said that the ongoing IPL is a three-horse race.

Interestingly, neither Royal Challengers Bangalore nor Delhi Capitals have won IPL so far while Mumbai Indians are the most decorated side with four titles. All the three teams, nonetheless, look set to make it to the playoffs.

“Even though they narrowly lost to KXIP on Thursday, Royal Challengers Bangalore are playing some very good cricket now. They went close to pulling off a miracle victory there,” Kevin Pietersen wrote in his column for betwayinsider.

Their bowling is coming up trumps more often. They have a spin combination that is starting to work and produce results, alongside a batting line-up that we know all about. I think RCB are one of the runners in a three-horse race to win the competition.

“The Delhi Capitals are another. They have got an all-round team that is really good. I’m still happy to be behind them. Clearly, the Mumbai Indians are firing big time, too. They have a formidable line-up in all departments. For me, they are the three teams that can win it,” he added.

Speaking about last year’s runners-up Chennai Super Kings, Kevin Pietersen believes the three-time champions are not capable of winning games consistently this year.

“Chennai Super Kings are back in the tournament after their win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but I still don’t think they can win games consistently. Their bowling attack just doesn’t feel right,” he said.
