MS Dhoni, R Ashwin Provide Online Cricket Coaching In Lockdown

MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin are keeping aspiring cricketers engaged with their online cricket coaching in lockdown. Satrajit Lahiri, chief coach of Dhoni academy, has put on several coaching videos on his Facebook account where he can be seen giving wide range of coaching from how to swing the ball to hitting a drive.

The MS Dhoni cricket academy is run by Aarka Sports Private Limited, a company which also manages the former India captain, according to a report in the New Indian Express. The academy named after him, through BCCI level C coach Satrajit Lahiri, is providing daily online classes for its viewers.

Premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s academy on the other side is also taking several measures to provide the best coaching to the aspiring players.

Some aspects can be sharpened even on terrace: Satrajit Lahiri

The MSDCA also has an app called Cricketor with lessons, which the trainees can use when they are cut off from net practice and regular drills. They have content to run the half-an-hour class on Facebook live for about a month, according to the New Indian Express report.

“There are aspects that can be sharpened even on the terrace or any little expanse inside the house without hurling the ball. Bowlers can work on things like grip, loading, building action and action without releasing the ball. If they get these things right, release will become better. Spinners, in particular, can do a lot at home,” explained Satrajit Lahiri, chief coach of MSDCA.

Moreover, Lahiri said, some aspects like backlift, defending, playing strokes can be perfected by doing shadow practicing. He also believes once these are taught online, the onlookers can take their time about it, at keep polishing their skills over the time.

Besides this, the academy has groups of U-11, U-13, U-15, U-19 and U-23, where trainees don’t have to pay additional fees for online classes, as per the report in TNIE.
