Ravindra Jadeja, arguably the best fielder in the world right now, pulled off an unbelievable catch, to remove threatening Neil Wagner on Day 2 of the second Test between India and New Zealand in Christchurch on Sunday. The act stunned the fans and the experts before they showered words of praise on him.

With the Indian bowlers running out of ideas, the 51-run partnership between Kyle Jamieson and Wagner threatened to turn into a century stand and that moment, it needed a special effort from an Indian player to stop the flow. And, the rockstar of the Indian team Jadeja came to rescue with his remarkable effort on the field.

I just stuck my hand: Ravindra Jadeja

Mohammed Shami, who bowled a bouncer from around the stumps to Wagner, who pulled it in the air towards deep square-leg. Jadeja, who was stationed there but standing well inside the boundary line, leapt in the air and put his left hand out and fortunately for him, the ball stuck as he came tumbling down but managed to hold on to the catch.

The all-rounder was immediately surrounded by his teammates as all of them relished in his fielding brilliance.

The effort left Wagner surprised too. At tea, Jadeja said he was expecting Wagner to score heavily in the square leg region, but never thought the ball would come at that pace.

“I was expecting him (Wagner) to score towards deep square leg. But I didn’t expect the ball to come at that pace. It came so quickly with the wind and I just stuck my hand out. I didn’t even realise when I took the catch. We bowled well as a unit. We will look to bat well and bowl them out again,” he said.

India wrapped up New Zealand for 235 and go into the second innings with a slight lead of seven runs after Shami and Bumrah picked up four and three wickets respectively. Whereas Jadeja bagged two wickets while Umesh scalped one wicket.

Despite being in such a solid position, the Virat Kohli-led side let it loose as they lost six wickets in the second innings on Day 2. They finished with 97-run lead on Day 2 with the hopes relying on Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.
