Former India captain, MS Dhoni, is on the verge of becoming just the fourth Indian cricketer to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Team India is all set to play six ODIs against South Africa starting tomorrow (February 1), and Dhoni can accomplish this record during the series.

Sachin Tendulkar (18426 runs, also the highest-run scorer in ODIs), Sourav Ganguly (11363 runs) and Rahul Dravid (10889) are the three Indian batsmen who have scored 10,000 runs in the ODI format.

Just like Dhoni, the three players had led team India in the past. Apart from that, there is one common thing, as these four players relinquished their captaincy post. Though, Dhoni is the only player to captain all these three players.

Talking of Dhoni’s batting records, he possesses a healthy batting average of 51.55 in the ODI format. He had scored ten centuries and 67 half-centuries till now. He also keeps wickets for India and has affected 398 victims in ODIs.

In Test cricket, Dhoni had affected 294 victims. He retired from the longest format of the game way back in 2014. He only plays ODI and T20I format now and is expected to call it quits after 2019 World Cup.

Meanwhile, India skipper, Virat Kohli is too on the verge of creating a record. He needs just two sixes to complete 100 sixes in ODI format. He will become eight Indian batsmen to hit 100 sixes in ODI format.

Apart from him; MS Dhoni (216 sixes), Sachin Tendulkar (195 sixes), Sourav Ganguly (190 sixes), Rohit Sharma (163 sixes), Yuvraj Singh (155 sixes), Virender Sehwag (136 sixes) and Suresh Raina (120 sixes) are the other Indian players to hit more than 100 sixes in ODI format. Shahid Afridi tops the list with 351 sixes in his account.

Meanwhile, the ODI series between India and South Africa starts on February 1. The first ODI will be played at the Kingsmead in Durban. The rest of five ODIs will be played on February 4, 7, 10, 13 and 16, respectively.

After the completion of the ODI series, both the teams will play T20I series starting on February 18. After the end of South Africa tour, the Indian team will fly to Bangladesh to play a T20I tri-series after a break of few days.
