"I Was Out Of Team": Virat Kohli Recalls How He Overcame Doubts Of Failure In International Career

Virat Kohli might have got a stranglehold of his international career and rose as the finest batsman now. But initially he had his doubts. Doubts which arouse questions in his mind that whether he will keep going in his career, how will he build it up and how far will he go in his career. Now looking back, Virat Kohli feels it is natural for any newcomer to feel that way, and inspires youngsters with his story.

Virat Kohli was dropped after his first series against Sri Lanka in 2008. He then had to wait until the 2009 Champions Trophy to earn a comeback for the side. The marquee event came as a turning point in his career as it helped him build confidence. Kohli recalled his journey and shared about the same in any interaction with senior Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal.

Virat Kohli: After scoring my first international century, I got my confidence

In his comeback tournament, Virat Kohli performed exceptionally well and was also adjudged the man-of-the-match in one the matches. On December 24, 2009 Kohli hit is first international century against Sri Lanka. He went up to score 107 runs, which was laced with 11 boundaries and one hit over the fence.

“When you come to play international cricket, everyone has doubts how will you make your career, how will you go ahead. For me, I was out of the team after playing a series for sometime,” Virat Kohli told Tamim Iqbal in an interview.

“I got an opportunity to make a comeback in the 2009 Champions Trophy, there were a few matches in which I performed well, won a man-of-the-match in one game, that helped me build my confidence. When I scored my first century against Sri Lanka, from there I felt that I can do it for a long time,” he added.

Kohli has now scored 43 ODI centuries, six behind cricket legend and his idol Sachin Tendulkar.
