Former Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram revealed that he wanted to see Pakistan defeat India in a World Cup match and was satisfied with how clinical the win was. However, he wants Babar Azam and co. to continue and focus on tomorrow’s match against New Zealand.

Last night in Dubai, Pakistan handed India their first-ever T20I 10-wicket loss. It was the first time that India had lost to their arch-rivals in a World Cup match, with the previous record being a 12-0 in their favor. Following the win, congratulations poured in from former Pakistani players, including Wasim Akram.

In my lifetime I wanted to see that and I saw that and it was a convincing win. That was yesterday, man, it’s history, it’s over now. I want the Pakistan team to concentrate again for the next game. It’s a long World Cup,” he was quoted as saying to India Today on Monday.

The former bowling great further added that the victory came on the back of a magnificent all-round performance. First, it was Shaheen Afridi who did the damage with the ball before Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan‘s opening partnership was enough to chase the target of 152 down within 18 overs.

Coming back to their performance it was just out of the world, the way they performed. It was clinical, it was skillful, they were calm and, you know, everything worked for them. I suppose toss as well,” he added.

With the win, Pakistan now goes into their match against New Zealand with a lot of confidence. A win against the Black Caps can almost guarantee them a slot in the semifinals.
