T20 World Cup 2022 will kickstart on October 16 and will conclude with the final on November 13. The qualifier round will be played first, during which 4 teams will qualify for the super 12 round. 8 teams have already qualified for the super 12 round. They are India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Australia, England, and New Zealand.

Australia is the venue and host of the tournament. They are also the defending champions of the tournament. Last year, Australia won the title of T20 WC 2021 after defeating New Zealand in the final. Australia won its first-ever title in the tournament.

Meanwhile, after a disappointing Asia Cup campaign, The T20 World Cup becomes a massive tournament win for Team India. They last won an ICC title back in 2013 which was the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni.

Since then, the side has failed to win another ICC title losing in knockout matches of various tournaments. Rohit Sharma will lead the side in the upcoming T20 World Cup. All eyes will be on him as to how he regroups the squad and leads them in the upcoming World Cup. Rohit failed to defend India’s Asia Cup title as captain recently.

Meanwhile, this might be the last T20 World Cup for many of the players. A few of these players have not played in the format in the last few years, A few others have been recalled into the side after performances in the IPL. In this article, we take a look at three players who can retire from T20Is after the mega event.

3 Indian Players Who Can Retire From T20Is After ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022

1) Dinesh Karthik

Karthik has been given a very significant role in India’s T20I squad ever since his comeback into the side. His performances in the IPL made the selectors take note of his finishing prowess and recall him to the team, especially for the T20 World Cup. In the few games that he has played since his comeback, Karthik has shown his ability with the bat batting in the final phase of the innings.

Despite his rich form, he was given only one game in the recently concluded Asia Cup which came as a surprise o many. Karthik will definitely be one of the Indian players who will call time on his international career after the T20 World Cup in Australia.

2) Shikhar Dhawan

The southpaw played his last T20I for India in 2018 and is well and truly out of the picture for the T20 World Cup. However, with India looking for a third opener for the World Cup, the selectors might consider the veteran for the position given his experience playing international cricket.

If his numbers in the IPL since 20218 are considered, Dhawan should be a guaranteed selection in India’s T20 World Cup 2022. The experienced opener is still actively playing for India in ODI Cricket and has his sights set on playing the 2023 ODI World Cup at home. If Dhawan is not included in India’s T20I World Cup squad, he might well consider retiring from the format.

3) Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin was a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad in 2021 and he is expected to be in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad as well. Ravindra Jadeja’s injury will mean that India will need an experienced spinner in the tournament alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and this is where Ashwin comes into the picture.

He has made a comeback to India’s T20 squad since the T20 World Cup and has played a number of matches. However, in the Asia Cup, he played just one game and according to former Indian cricket experts, this was a wrong move by the management to keep him on the bench.  In case he is ignored by India’s T20 World Cup squad, he is more than likely to retire from the format.
