Steve Smith lauds the same Shamar Joseph who got him out on his first ball in Test Cricket
West Indies created history on Sunday when they defeated Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane in the second Test of the two-match series. Shamar Joseph was the hero for West Indies as the pacer took a seven fer in the second innings to take West Indies home with a spectacular win. Steve Smith lauded Shamar Joseph for his performance against Australia in the day-night Test at the Gabba as the pacer was selected as the Player of The Match for his figures of 7/68in the second innings.
This was the first time Australia suffered a defeat in a day-night Test match and the first time West Indies won a day-night Test. It was after 27 years that West Indies defeated Australia in Australia in a Test match and it was a sensational moment for every West Indies player as they played brilliant cricket against the defending WTC champions. Shamar Joseph was also given the Player of The Series award and it was a special moment for him as it was his debut series.
Steve Smith hailed Shamar Joseph’s performance and said that it was great for cricket what Shamar was able to pull off and that he is a rare talent. He also said the way West Indies competed was also great and talked about Shamar Joseph’s bowling in the end. West Indies became the second Team to beat Australia at the Gabba in the last 35 years. The first team was India who won at the Gabba in January 2021.
Steve Smith said, “Shamar Joseph is a rare talent – it’s great for cricket what he was able to do & see the West Indies competing as they did – he just kept coming in & probably bowled faster at the end”.

Shamar Joseph Has Not Been Included In The White-Ball Leg
Shamar Joseph has not been included in the West Indies squad that will face Australia in the three-match ODI series and the three-match T20I series. He was only included in the Test series and went on to take a seven-fer in the fourth innings of the second Test even after suffering a huge blow on his toe while batting against Mitchell Starc.
The West Indies will now face Australia in a three-match ODI series scheduled to commence on February 2 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The other two ODIs of the series will be played in Sydney and Canberra on February 4 and February 6 respectively. The teams will then face each other in a three-match T20I series. The West Indies will be hosting the T20 World Cup with the United States this year. The World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 1. West Indies missed out on the ODI World Cup 2023 and the Super-12 of the T20 World Cup 2022.
