Indian Cricket Team had a great Day 1 where they bundled out Bangladesh for 227 runs and went unscathed in a tricky short phase of play. The management surprisingly left out Kuldeep Yadav and included the left-arm speedster Jaydev Unadkat. Unadkat made a comeback to the Test team after 12 years.

The 31-year-old fast bowler took 2 key wickets of Zakir Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. The pacer was quite disciplined in his approach as he gave 50 runs in his 16 overs. Unadkat would be delighted as he has been performing consistently for the last 2-3 years in the domestic circuit.

Wasim Jaffer on Jaydev Unadkat

Wasim Jaffer was seen interacting with ESPNcricinfo and was asked about Jaydev Unadkat. “I feel really happy after he was picked for the Indian Team after playing last Test in 2010. He has worked so hard tirelessly for Saurashtra and wherever he got the opportunity, led Saurashtra to the Ranji Trophy , led them to Vijay Hazare Trophy . He has been a domestic giant and has got the rewards for the work he has done over a period of decade,” said Wasim Jaffer.

“Really very happy for him, for first of all he got an opportunity to play and then made an impact, the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim and you could see somebody who has played so many games close to 300-400 First class wickets. The intelligence to bowl from over the stump and around the stump and really very happy that the contributed on Day 1,” he added.

Wasim Jaffer was asked about the selection of Unadkat over Kuldeep Yadav. “You really do feel sad for Kuldeep Yadav. I don’t know whether the pitch was really green , but probably the surface or moisture which temped the Indian team to put in a seamer,” said Wasim Jaffer.

“It did make sense looking at the way the pitch turned out, but you do feel sad for Kuldeep Yadav who was man of the match in the 1st Test Match and then sit out; because you fell sad that he never got a consistent run in the Indian Team. So that what you gonna see, you can’t drop Ashwin, you can’t drop Jadeja and Axar. But the selection looks a justifiable as the pitch had a little bit of help and that up & down,” he added.
