ENG vs IND : 5 Indian Players Who Might Be Benched Throughout The Test Series

India plays the rescheduled Manchester Test against England at a different venue from July 1. The postponed Test now will be played in Birmingham. The final Test match between the two sides which was supposed to be completed last year was postponed to 2022 due to a covid scare in the Indian camp.

The BCCI announced a 17-member for the one-off Test match against England. Since this is the decider Test match of the series, India will pick their strongest playing XI for the game. This might see some of the players get benched for the Test match. In this article, we take a look at five Indian players who might be benched for the game.

Shubman Gill

KL Rahul and Rohit Shara are both of the squad that is announced for the Test match. With the top and middle-order sorted, Shubman Gill might find himself out of the playing XI. He has been with the Indian Test squad for the last two years and has played a few crucial knocks. However, he might get benched for this all-important game.

Shreyas Iyer / Hanuma Vihari

The management has a choice between Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari for the number five slot in the playing XI. Only one of the two players will feature in the playing XI. ONe among Iyer or Vihari will have to sit on the sidelines.

KS Bharat

Bharat has been selected in the Indian squad for the IND vs ENG series as a backup for Rishabh Pant. While Rishabh’s spot is almost guaranteed in the XI, Bharat will be used in his place if there is any emergency or injury scare.

Prasidh Krishna

Krishna bowled well in the recently concluded IPL season. His Test debut is also being talked about heavily. He was a part of the Indian squad that travelled to England last year and has been included this year as well. With all the senior pacers included in the squad, the Karnataka pacer might find himself out of the playing XI.

Umesh Yadav

The veteran Indian pacer had a good outing in IPL 2022. He ended with 16 wickets for KKR and made his case for a return to the white-ball squad. Umesh is a part of the Test squad that will be travelling to England. However, he might not feature in the India XI given there given the presence of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
