Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that the decision to include pacer Deepak Chahar in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against South Africa was the right decision, he mentioned that head coach Rahul Dravid likes the pacer as a package.
Speedster Deepak Chahar is among the six-pace bowling options that the BCCI selectors have included in India’s One Day Internationals squad for the 3-match series against South Africa.
Talking about India’s ODI squad on his YouTube channel Aakash Chopra said:
“Jasprit Bumrah as vice-captain, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar – Bhuvi has been bowling well. He bowled well in the last two T20Is we saw. Deepak Chahar was slightly expensive there but he has been kept, which is right. Rahul Dravid likes him as a package.”
Cricketer-turned-commentator highlighted that pacer Mohammed Shami has been rested for the series and opined that no big names have missed out on the squad. He said:
“Mohammed Shami is not there, he has been rested. Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj – there is no big name who has been missed.”
Ravichandran Ashwin Is Back, That’s An Interesting One – Aakash Chopra
India have included 3 spinners in the ODI squad for the South Africa series including Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar, Former Indian cricketer further talking about spinners said:
“Ravichandran Ashwin is back. That’s an interesting one because what all options did you have – you had Rahul Chahar as an option, whom you played in the World Cup but after that, he has been kept in cold storage. They haven’t even said if he is fit or not.”
Chopra added that there have been no conversations about mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy who was included in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. He said:
“Washington Sundar is also back. One leg-spinner, two-finger spinners, there is no Varun Chakravarthy, not even in the conversation. Ravindra Jadeja’s availability might not have been there because of which this is the composition.”
