IND vs SA: India Misjudged South Africa And Were Overconfident - Imran Tahir
Former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir reckoned that the Indian team was overconfident coming into the South African tour which has cost them both the Test series and the ODI series.
South Africa made a comeback to win the Test series 2-1 before securing the ODI series in the first two matches, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead with a game to go.
The most important factor in these wins is how comfortable and convincing it was for the hosts, considering it was against one of the strongest sides in the world. Speaking about the defeats, Tahir implied the overconfidence instilled a sense of complacency in India’s game.
“I don’t judge any team but I<!---->n<!---->d<!---->i<!---->a is a very good side and this South African team is just growing up and India misjudged them and they were overconfidence that they can defeat this team easily and this is the main reason for Indian side defeat,” Tahir told ANI after the completion of World Giants’ match against Asia Lions.
The win is very special as this team is too young – Imran Tahir
Tahir also noted that the South African ODI team is quite inexperienced with Quinton de Kock being the player with the most number of games. The rest are still finding their feet in the white-ball squad but their recent performance certainly gives confidence with regards to the future.
“India dominating world cricket in Test and one day both from last 4 to 5 years but this Proteas team played very well and they took good advantage of their home conditions and turned it into victory.”
“This is the biggest victory than anything I believe this win is very special as this team is too young and they beat the nation who is dominating both formats for a long time. SA played so well and locked both series,” Tahir mentioned.
The final ODI is a dead rubber and will be played on Sunday in Cape Town.
