DC vs MI: Jasprit Bumrah Surpasses Harbhajan Singh To Create An Elite Record In The IPL

Mumbai Indians spearhead Jasprit Bumrah took 3 /25 against Delhi Capitals as he ended the season with 15 wickets in IPL 2022. After taking just five wickets in the first half of the tournament, he took 10 in the second half to end his tally with 15 wickets for the season.

Since 2016, Jasprit Bumrah has taken 15 or more wickets every season. Against DC, he made early inroads into Delhi’s innings in Mumbai’s aim to defend their modest total. He took the wickets of Mitchell Marsh (0) and Prithvi Shaw (24) inside the powerplay and came back to dismiss Rovman Powell (43) in the 19th over who was threatening to take the game away from Mumbai.

In the process, the lead Mumbai pacer created a new record as Bumrah surpassed legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh to become the second highest-wicket for Mumbai Indians. He also became the first Indian to take 15 wickets or more for seven successive seasons. Harbhajan had 127 wickets for Mumbai in the IPL. Bumrah had now displaced him as the second-best with 148 wickets. Lasith Malinga tops the list with 170 scalps for the five-time champions.

The champion pacer was a highly-motivated man after his figures against Delhi Capitals. He also ended up as the Man of the Match for his exploits. He spoke about enjoying his spell during the game and not thinking too much about wickets.

“Nothing special, just tried to have fun, and enjoyed my game. Very happy with how the last game went. The wicket is quite fast here, there’s pace and bounce. But this (today’s pitch) was slow, and the bounce was low. There wasn’t much swing, so we assessed the conditions and tried to execute our plans,” said Bumrah at the post-match presentation.

He then spoke about trying to help the youngsters in the team about the basics of bowling a good line and length. Bumrah also spoke about coming stronger as a group next year in the IPL.

“Whenever you are new to the game, so you need to learn a lot. I try to help the youngsters as much as I can. We tried to help them as much as we can, so that it’s a good atmosphere (in the dressing room). Improving your game is a yearly process, it doesn’t stop. We need to analyse next year and come back strong,” he concluded saying.
