Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) won by 5 wickets against KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 4th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, March 28.
Lucknow Super Giants, while batting first, started off poorly as they lost the top-4 batters – KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis and Manish Pandey – for 29 runs. However, Ayush Badoni and Deepak Hooda pulled back the things for LSG and helped the team score 158 runs.

Chasing the target, Gujarat Titans were off to a poor start as they lost quick wickets of Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar. However, Hardik Pandya and Matthew Wade batted decently. David Miller played an amazing knock of 30 runs at a strike rate of 142.86 before losing his wicket in the 18th over. However, Rahul Tewatia stood strong on one end and Abhinav Manohar smashed some amazing boundaries to help Gujarat Titans win their first game in the marquee Indian Premier League (IPL).
This was the right game for us – Hardik Pandya
During the post-match presentation, Hardik Pandya said that the match against LSG was the right game for Gujarat Titans and the players have learnt a lot by winning the match. He also lauded Mohammed Shami for providing Gujarat with a great start. He said:
“This was the right game for us to be on either side and learn, but have learnt a lot by winning. Shami is known for his seam positions and he got us to a great start.”
Hardik Pandya also revealed that he would be batting at No.4 for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2022. He asserted:
“We would have anyday taken 160 on this wicket. Mostly I’ll bat at number four, because I want to take pressure with my experience so that the others can play freely. We want to win as a team and nobody can take the contribution away from anyway. It was quite humid as well, so I wouldn’t have finished Shami’s spell over there.”
The Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya was highly impressed with the performance of Abhinav Manohar. He said:
“Manohar is some talent to look at with the talent he has. He is someone who you are going to hear about in the future.”
While talking about his dismissal against his brother Krunal Pandya, Hardik said:
“ Getting out to Krunal would have pinched me more had we lost, but now the family is neutral and happy. He got me out and we won the match.”
