Sunrisers Hyderabad finished as the wooden spoon holders in the IPL 2021 season and they could not recover from the poor outings they had in the first phase of the tournament in India. Their dependence on the overseas contingent was visible and the injuries to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan did not help their cause as well.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has been expected to stick with Kane Williamson as the skipper of the side while Rashid Khan will be the next retention for the franchise. The franchise is also expected to retain just the two players and they might consider picking up a strong Indian contingent in the mega auction. Here are 3 big players who won’t be retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2022.

IPL 2022: 3 Big Players Who Won’t Be Retained By Sunrisers Hyderabad

David Warner:

David Warner has been one of the all-time best players in IPL with some phenomenal numbers to back it up as well. He led the Sunrisers franchise to a title win in 2016 and he has been one of the standout players of the tournament as well. However, he was sacked from captaincy in the middle of the tournament this year.

Sunrisers have already made their intentions clear of not looking at David Warner as the future and instead are looking into Kane Williamson for the leadership duties. Warner will be one of the most demanded players in the upcoming auction or could be picked by the two new teams.

Manish Pandey:

Manish Pandey was one of the promising batters in the Indian circuit who was expected to do well in international cricket but his inconsistent performances did not help him. On the back of a poor strike rate, he was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad playing XI in IPL 2021 after the first few games.

Pandey was picked up for huge money in the 2018 auction and this time around, he might not go for the same money. Sunrisers are likely to stick with their Indian bowlers as the retentions and Pandey will definitely not be on their retention list.

Jonny Bairstow:

Jonny Bairstow has always been among the runs in the last two editions of IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and he should have been on the radar of the franchise while retaining. However, the rule to retain just two overseas players would not allow them to retain Bairstow as well.

He has been a key contributor to the franchise at the top of the order and he has some brutal power to take the opponent away from the game. The English wicket-keeper batsman will be eyeing the two new franchises if he is unlikely to be retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
