It was a relatively good IPL auction for Punjab Kings at the IPL 2022 mega auction. They added 23 players in addition to the two they had retained to complete a good-looking squad. They managed to assemble a good mix of Indian and overseas players in the mega auction.
They would hope that the players help the side to win their maiden IPL title. So far 2014 remains their best IPL season when they made it to the finals but lost out to KKR in the final. Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada and Liam Livingstone are the three costliest buys for the franchise in the mega auction. In this article, we will take a look at the five most expensive players bought by Punjab Kings in their IPL auction history.
IPL Auction 2022: 5 Highest Bids By Punjab Kings (PBKS) In IPL Auction History
Shikhar Dhawan (8.25 Cr)

The southpaw was the first player to go under the hammer in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Punjab Kings did not waste any time in roping him in and adding muscle to their batting line-up. Dhawan was in terrific form in the last three IPL seasons scoring over 500 runs in every season. Kings would hope Dhawan continues with his form and consistency now for their franchise and help them win their maiden IPL title. Dhawan might also lead the franchise in the upcoming season.

Kagiso Rabada (9.25 Cr)

The South African pacer was the second big buy for Punjab Kings after Shikhar Dhawan. The franchise who was lacking on pace after releasing Mohammed Shami, Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson ensured that they got back some of it by adding Kagiso Rabada to their squad. Renada was with Delhi Capitals since 2017 and picked 76 wickets in 50 games for the franchise before they decided to release him ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.
Liam Livingstone (11.50 Cr)

The England batsman is a reputed name in the BBL and among the other domestic cricket leagues. Punjab Kings went into an intense bidding war with a few other franchises and finally managed to rope in Livingstone. He played for Rajasthan Royals but did not produce his best for the franchise. As a result, he was released ahead of the mega auction and turned out to be one of the costliest buys in the auction.
KL Rahul (11 Cr)

In the IPL 2018 auction, Punjab Kings roped in KL Rahul for 11 crores and made him the captain. He flourished with the bat for the franchise scoring over 2000 runs but failed to change the fortunes of the side. After spending four seasons with the franchise, KL decided to part ways with the franchise in order to join a new team. He was snapped up by Lucknow Supergiants ahead of IPL 2022 auction. He will lead the franchise as well.
Jhye Richardson (14 Cr)

Australian pacer Jhye Richardson was bought by 14 crores by Punjab Kings. He is the most expensive player to have played or the franchise till date. Jhye did not have a good season with the franchise after being paid the big bucks. He picked just three wickets in three games in IPL 2021. He was released ahead of the mega auction and went unsold in the mega event.
