The stage is all set for IPL 2022 auction, which will take place in February this year. A total of 10 teams will be part of this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League, which is expected to take place in April. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new teams that will also compete in the tournament.
Hence ahead of the tournament, a mega auction is being conducted so as to set up the squad for these new teams. Ahead of IPL 2022 auction, the old 8 teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squad. The 8 teams named a total of 27 players in their retention lists, 19 domestic and 8 overseas players.

Chennai Super Kings- Faf du Plessis
Chennai Super Kings will aim to bring back Faf du Plessis in their squad. Due to the restriction of only 4 players during retentions, the IPL 2021 champions could not retain Plessis.
As an opener, the South African player did a marvellous job in IPL 2021, smashing 633 runs in 16 games at an average of 45.21 and 6 half-centuries. With Faf du Plessis, CSK will again have the same strong set of openers -Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis-which they had in last season.
