Mumbai Indians bought as many as 21 players in the IPL 2022 mega auction with a purse of 489 crores. Ishan Kishan at 15.25 crores was the most expensive player. He was also the most expensive player of the IPL 2022 auction. Apart from him, the franchise bought Murugan Ashwin, Jofra Archer, Daniel Sams, and Tim David as some of the other key players.

Mumbai Indians have a rich history in the IPL. They have won the title five times and is the most successful franchise in IPL history. The last time they won an IPL title was in 2020 when they beat Delhi Capitals in the final.

Ahead of IPL 2022 auction, Mumbai Indians had an available salary cap of Rs. 48 crores. The franchise spent Rs. 16 crores to retain Rohit Sharma, Rs. 12 crores for Jasprit Bumrah, Rs. 8 crores for Suryakumar Yadav, and Rs. 6 crores for Kieron Pollard. The franchise has coped the criticism of not being among the best teams after the auction given that they have lost some key players.

The franchise now needs to build the strongest possible playing XI from the players at their disposal. The Indian players thus become key in this lineup with a few good overseas players in the mix as well. Rohit will lead the team and will also open the batting in for Mumbai Indians. Rohit and Ishan Kishan opening the batting with Surtakumar Yadav at three and Tim David at four can be the way to go for the side. Rohit has won five titles as captain and will eye to win his sixth as the skipper of the franchise in a brand new season.
