Ishan Kishan was bought back by Mumbai Indians for a whopping amount of 15.25 crores on day 1 of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was the costliest player on the first day of the auction. The five-time champions had to release the youngster during the retention window but have managed to buy him back.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar talking to Star Sports said that Kishan will not be affected by the price tag as he is back to his old franchise for whom he has performed in the past.
Someone Like Nicholas Pooran Will Be Affected By Price Tag: Sanjay Manjrakar
“I don’t think the price tag will affect him too much because the team has shown great faith in him. I am sure it’s something they would have told him. When we talk bout huge price tags, bringing a lot of pressure, the player feels the pressure when the team is gambling on him. Someone like Nicholas Pooran (10.75 crores) can feel pressure” said Manjrekar.
Ishan Kishan became the second-most expensive Indian player after Yuvraj Singh to be bought at the auction. Yuvraj was bought by Delhi Capitals for 16 crores in 2015 after RCB bought him for 14 crores in 2014.
“We saw how Yuvraj Singh, when he was sold for 14 crores, his own confidence went down. He was on the slide, Ishan Kishan is at the peak of the powers. He is at the same franchise, I don’t think the price tag is going to affect him. I don’t think Ishan Kishan will feel the pressure at all.”
Kishan scored 516 runs in 14 innings at an average of 57.33 and a strike rate of 145.76 with 4 50+ scores in IPL 2020 for the franchise. That became his breakout season in the IPL which also paved the path for his international debut for India.
