2018 remains a special year for CSK as they made a return into the IPL after being banned from the league. Dhoni too was back as captain and this time was a man on a mission. He led CSK to their third IPL title on their comeback year making the year one to remember for Chennai fans.

Talking to Matthew Hayden in a ‘Super Reunion’ video shared by CSK, Hussey recalled Dhoni’s rousing speech ahead of the start of the 2018 IPL season that made him emotional.

“I think there’s not one particular memory but we see these championship-winning photos on the wall… I think probably the 2018 season. We were out of the competition for two years. We came back and I remember MS giving a speech right at the start of the season. He actually started tearing; tears were coming out of his eyes and I remember thinking, ‘Something special is happening here’,” Hussey told Hayden.

“That was a special season. It gives you goosebumps just thinking about what happened that year. It was almost like it was meant to be after coming back to the IPL. MS played unbelievably well throughout the season. It was just a special time,” he added.

CSK have lost seven out of their 10 matches so far in IPL 2022. The chances of them making the IPL 2022 playoffs is next to impossible. Their most recent loss was against RCB that almost ended the hopes of them making the playoffs. They play Delhi Capitals next on May 8.
