The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, IPL 2022 has now taken the centre stage as the BCCI has reportedly locked in the dates for the tournament next year. Notably, the tournament will in all likelihood, return to India as the IPL 2022 schedule has been finalized keeping India as the venue.
The last couple of IPL editions, IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 were played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the poor COVID situation in the country. IPL 2022 will be a mega event as the tournament will witness a total of 10 teams battling out with the addition of the newly added Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises.
IPL 2022 Schedule Finalized, Tournament To Commence In Chennai
If reports are to be believed, the BCCI has locked the dates for IPL 2022 in the upcoming year. The tournament is all set to begin from April 02 in Chennai. Since there will be 10 teams and 74 games, the expected date for the final of the tournament could be in the first week of June.
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, in his recent speech had also hinted about IPL 2022 taking place in India.
“I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” Shah had stated in the CSK title celebrations.
Mega Auction Likely To Be Held In The 2nd Week Of December
If certain reports are to be believed, then the IPL 2022 mega auction is all set to take place in the 2nd week of December 2021 in Chennai. Notably, the addition of 2 new teams has brought in a lot of changes in the retention policy and rules. As far as the retentions are concerned, a franchise can retain up to 4 players and the overseas players can’t be retained beyond a couple.
This ideally leaves the franchises with a 3+1 or 2+2 combination wherein, the franchises can either opt to retain 3 domestic and 1 overseas player or 2 domestic and 2 overseas players. The retention date is November 30 as the franchises have to submit the list to the IPL Governing Council on the final day of November.
