Yuzvendra Chahal was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. The leg-spinner played for the franchise from 2014 to 2021 and ended as the highest wicket-taker for the franchise. He took 139 wickets in 114 matches including 51 wickets at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
Talking to Ravichandran Ashwin for the latter’s Youtube channel, the Indian leg-spinner fondly recalled of an incident including him, Virat Kohli and then RCB head coach Daniel Vettori. It concerned about Chahal’s extreme show of emotions after taking a wicket in that season.
“When I went to RCB in 2014, I was very nervous – on the field too. He used to be in the covers, and he was so energetic. And I was a youngster, and he sometimes got angry with me too. So in 2014, when I used to pick up a wicket those days, I used to charge towards the batsman to show my aggression. That happened two-three times, and the match referee spoke to [the coach] Daniel Vettori,” he said while speaking to Ashwin on his Youtube channel.
“Then in one match, I said something bad, and Vettori sir came to me and said, ‘This is not good, you have the potential but if you can change this thing… if you want to run (after picking a wicket), you run towards the covers, to Virat bhaiyya, and say whatever you want to – Virat won’t mind,” Chahal further added saying.
Yuzvendra Chahal Among Top Indian Spinners In IPL 2022 Mega Auction
The Indian leg-spinner has registered himself in the IPL 2022 mega auction at a base price of two crores. That he is a proven wicket-taker in the tournament, franchises might start a bidding war to rope in the Indian leggie.
Along with Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jayant Yadav Amit Mishra and Rahul Chahar are the other Indian spinners who have enrolled themselves in the mega auction. Ashwin is one of the marquee players in the auction.
Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal has found a place in both the ODI and T20I squads against West Indies. The ODI series starts from February 6 in Ahmedabad followed by a three-match T20I series in Kolkata.
