Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has mentioned that the KKR will need to bag a win in their next IPL 2022 game to stay alive in the tournament and was hoping to see that the Shreyas Iyer and co. do not make “too many changes” to the playing XI.

Kolkata Knight Riders are on the verge of getting knocked out of the IPL 2022 playoffs race and even if they win the remaining two games they would have to be dependent on other teams to make it to the playoffs. Currently, they have 10 points from 12 outings.

Speaking on SK Match Ki Baat, Harbhajan said that to win the game team selection is very crucial and the Kolkata Knight Riders have shown inconsistency in team selection by making a lot of changes throughout the tournament. He asserted:

“Kolkata will need to win to stay alive in the tournament. For that, team selection is very important. In their last match, they made five changes. The changes were good but they were too much. Earlier, they had made 22 changes and, including these five, they have made 27 changes so far.”

“I hope they do not make too many changes now and the one thing that changes is the result. A lot of results have not gone in Kolkata’s favour. I hope they play well and get the results as well.”

Former India off-spinner further said that the Kolkata Knight Riders are trying their best to compete for the playoffs spot but now it’s too late. He asserted:

“Kolkata are trying hard to stay alive but I think it’s a bit too late. They have a very slim chance of qualifying. Even if they win the next two games, their fortunes will depend on the results of the other teams.”

Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif, during the same conversation, said that the Kolkata Knight Riders have once again come back to the same playing XI that helped them win the first three games in IPL 2022. He said:

“KKR’s campaign in IPL 2022 has gone nowhere. They have gone round and round and have landed at the same place where they started. They are now playing with the same team which saw them win three games at the start.”

The 61st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) will be played between Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, May 14.
