Umran Malik has attracted a lot of eyeballs with his pace in this IPL 2022. After a slow start, he picked up his pace and his performance and in the last two games has won two back-to-back Man of the Match awards for his side. Malik bagged his career-best figures in the IPL as he picked up 4/28 which included a triple wicket-maiden. So far in the IPL, Malik has picked up nine wickets from six games.
Against Punjab Kings on Sunday, Umran Malik became just the third bowler in IPL history to bowl a maiden in the 20th over. The over eventually turned out to be a triple-wicket maiden. He picked up the wickets of Odean Smith, Rahul Chahar, and Vaibhav Arora as Punjab were bowled out for just 151. SRH chased down the target with seven balls to spare and went up to 8 points from six games now.

Umran’s father Abdul Rashid spoke to News 18 about the quality of his son and explained the reason behind the pace that he generates. He spoke about his hardships as well while adding that the IPL 2021 season acted as the launchpad in his career. Malik was retained by the franchise along with Kane Williamson and Abdul Samad. The pacer is now repaying the faith of the franchise. His father thanked the franchise for retaining him in IPL 2021.
“It was a great feeling; we would like to thank SRH to retain him and giving him an opportunity. And Umran also wanted to stay back with the team. Sunrisers had faith in him and Umran came as a player and live up to the expectations. We as parents also want him to perform well for his team and make himself and everyone proud” he told News18.
Malik was one of the net bowlers who stayed with the team for the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE. He bowled to the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma which was a great learning curve for him. Malik’s father now wishes to see his son play for India sooner rather than later.
“He always used to believe in himself as an individual that he wanted to succeed in his life. He is playing IPL today and we hope that with God’s grace he would represent India soon and will make the whole nation proud,” he added.
