Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Glenn Maxwell produced another impactful knock in the 6th match of IPL 2021 against the SunRisers Hyderabad as his side pulled off an unlikely win by seven runs. Glenn Maxwell’s 59 off 41 deliveries was crucial on a sluggish pitch as it dragged his team to a winning total of 149. The Victorian, who is living up to his price tag, remains aware of the need to make an impact, having already played for four IPL franchises.

Glenn Maxwell shared two vital partnerships in different stages of the innings that formed the bedrock of the Royal Challengers reaching a competitive score. Maxwell added 44 runs in 38 balls with Virat Kohli and another 27 in 15 deliveries with Kyle Jamieson towards the end. The stands proved more critical, given that there was a rare failure from AB de Villiers. Maxwell’s 59 off 41 balls was his first half-century in IPL in five years.

SunRisers Hyderabad were cruising for the most part as David Warner and Manish Pandey added 83 off 69 balls after losing Wriddhiman Saha. But the former’s wicket opened things up as Manish Pandey struggled to score at more than run-a-ball. Shahbaz Ahmed, who bowled the 17th over, produced a three-wicket over to turn the game on its head, dismissing Jonny Bairstow, Abdul Samad, and Pandey. The Orange Army managed only eight runs of the required 15 in the last over.

Glenn Maxwell commended the start he has made for the Royal Challengers Bangalore so far as they have given him a specific role like Australia has. The 32-year old lauded his captain Virat Kohli and the batting line-up for giving him the luxury to give himself time and play freely. Maxwell understands that being his fourth IPL time, there is pressure on him to perform according to the expectations. He also plans to try his hand at bowling soon.

“It’s a nice start at RCB. They gave me a specific role. To have batters around me gives me time to settle in and play with freedom – similar to the role I play at the Australian team. It’s just sharing our experiences and giving myself time to assess my conditions. Kohli’s good at keeping me on task. Having those guys behind me is a nice little luxury. It’s my fourth IPL team and there’s pressure on me to turn up and make my impact. I’m planning to get my chance at bowling, but Washington Sundar is a superstar,” Maxwell told in the post-match presentation.
