The Bowlers Had Too Much To Do; Stark Contrast To The Last Game: Eoin Morgan

Rajasthan Royals registered their second win in IPL 2021 by consigning Eoin Morgan and co. to their fourth defeat in the tournament. Rajasthan Royals strangled Kolkata Knight Riders with their disciplined bowling performance to restrict them to 133 at the high-scoring Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Eoin Morgan, who recorded a diamond duck, lamented the poor intent from the batting line-up, leaving the bowlers too much to do.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson made a couple of changes from their loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore and elected to bowl first. Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill could not give the desired start to their side, finding it difficult to find the boundaries reasonably frequently. After a little more than ten overs, the two-time champions lost Rana, Gill, Sunil Narine, and Eoin Morgan. Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik conjured a few hits to lift the Knight Riders to a respectable, if not a defendable total.
Even though Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal departed relatively early, the latter had provided the required momentum to the innings. Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube added another 45 runs to take closer to the target before Dube and Rahul Tewatia perished. But the Royals’ captain played responsibly and took his team over the line with David Miller with six wickets to spare.
Possibly, we were 40 short which is a lot in a T20 game: Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan conceded that the batting performance was a let down as they lacked intent throughout the game, leaving behind at least 40 runs on the pitch. The Irishman stated that the bowlers had too much to do, which was in stark contrast to the Knight Riders’ last game and that the wicket had not been as high-scoring in the previous matches. Morgan felt that at least one batsman in the line-up needs to play free-flowing cricket and mourned missing on two invaluable points.
“The batting was the letdown and we lacked a lot of intent throughout the whole innings. We were behind the eight ball right from the get-go. Possibly, we were 40 short which is a lot in a T20 game. The bowlers had too much to do. It’s a stark contrast to the last game. The wicket hasn’t been as good as it has been in the previous games and we couldn’t overcome the challenge. It left us with a lot to do, which we couldn’t do. The clearer the mind, the easier it is. Ultimately, one guy needs to play free-flowing cricket. Two sides struggling to gain momentum in the tournament and we missed big two points,” Morgan told during the post-match presentation.
