Delhi Capitals’ new-ball bowlers made early inroads in their season opener against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. After Avesh Khan dismissed Faf Du Plessis in the second over of the game, Chris Woakes joined the party by removing Ruturaj Gaikwad. Chris Woakes’ classic outswinger got the better of Gaikwad as he edged it to Shikhar Dhawan.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal occurred in the third over of Chennai Super Kings’ innings as Chris Woakes kept threatening the batsmen from his opening over itself. The England seamer stuck to the task as Gaikwad poked at it, but could only edge it to Shikhar Dhawan at first slip. Dhawan leapt forward and clung on to a low catch to give Woakes his first wicket in his Capitals’ jersey.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals keeper-batsman and captain Rishabh Pant chose to field first after winning the coin toss. Delhi Capitals’ four overseas cricketers are Chris Woakes, Tom Curran, Marcus Stoinis, and Shimron Hetmyer. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings fielded Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, and Faf Du Plessis. The Super Kings would be aiming to bounce back from a forgettable IPL 2020, while the Capitals would target to go one step further from last year to lift the trophy.
